Dead Stars

"Stars that are dead still shine, because their light is trapped in time"
Dead star is a love story about a man named Alfredo Salazar who has a fiance named Esperanza. This story revolves around Alfredo Salazar,a lawyer over thirty, and two women:Esperanza and Julia Salas. He was torn between making two important decisions,to marry or to choose what his heart desires. But just like other dilemmas, the crossroad in which he found himself in was not to be solved without harming anyone. He was engaged to Esperanza, his fiance of four years.
This story brought different emotions, and nostalgic scenarios in the early 90's.The title itself is very interesting in a way it brought excitement to the readers. It shows the reflection of time in which the literary work was written along with the language, norms and the way people think.
Dead Stars reveals how love is very fatal,in a way it can control one's decision. It shows a complex circumstances that every human being has to go through in life. It manifest how youth can be infatuated in the idea of love. Just like how Alfredo dealt with Julia Salas. How he fell in love in just a short period of time, just by the memories they made. People tends to be easily in love, without knowing the true essence of it. It also tackles how society criticizes people. It affects their decisions in life,in the case Alfredo Salazar,he chose to marry Esperanza because he is afraid of what society can bring to his life. This story also show how fidelity can ruin one's life even during the early years.Alfredo was being swallowed by fidelity with his infatuation to Julia. The author shows the culture during those times. He emphasizes how hard it is to make a decision without being attacked by the society.
The title Dead Stars, symbolizes Alfredo's love for Julia. Love that is nonexistent. The guy fell in love with a girl. She was his dream, his star. But when stars die, their glow diminishes then eventually vanishes like the feelings of Alfredo when he touches the hand of Julia when they see each other after a year, he realizes that the feelings that he had to her were gone.
It is hard to cope up with our society, there is a fear of judgment in everything you do,this story encouraged me to stay real within myself. It inspires me to do what I want, because no matter what you do,what you say and what you think, society will judge you.
